Head circumference

In this cross-section of a near-term fetus, taken at the level of the thalami and cavum septum pellucidum, the head circumference is outlined by the yellow ellipse. Head circumference measurement should be used instead of biparietal diameter if the head is narrow (dolichocephalic) or excessively round (brachycephalic).
